It in fact does have to do with LeRoi. Apparently he and Carter used to call each other Grux for as long as they’ve been friends. I have no clue what it means, but it’s an answer to your questions. Also, “Big Whiskey” is a reference to what a homeless harmonica player said to Dave after receiving a $20 tip from Dave himself.
