Day 4: See Day 2

Seriously, I love me some GUAC and I had no idea until I came to Mexico and the stuff is everywhere! As I sit in the hotel room, in my Mexican Cowgirl Hat, my Dos Equis and having just finished a plate full of chips, pico de gallo y guac, I decided I needed to tell everyone how much I love guac and Mexico. The guac here is ALWAYS FRESH, not like the browning stuff you sometimes see at Chipotle,; this is seriously, always FRESH and so yummy!

Yesterday we met the nicest family from Vancouver, which we are totally friends with and plan to summer in Vancouver with and perhaps even attend the 2010 Olympics (yes, we’ve gotten invited). Anyway, we were poolside yesterday and today and loved every minute of it. The sun is high, the water is blue, the drinks are cold and the company is awesome. Zeus and I are having a great time and to be honest- neither of us wants to return. While we only had one excursion, we’re just enjoying chillin pool-side with a cool cocktail. While our new friends are from Canada (which there are A LOT of BTW) we’ve met folks from Vegas as well. They booze and smoke way more than we ever would (especially the smoking since we aren’t smokers), but we got an invite to contact them the next time we’re in Vegas.

So now we’re watching “Taladega Nights” with “Little Baby Jesus” and enjoying a cold one before dinner. We’re got a couple more nights left in Cabo and hope to eat at “The Office” tomorrow evening with out new Canadian friends.

Until then… we miss everyone at home…

Love, Mandy y Zeus

Toady was an awesome day and we’ve got PHNOM pictures to prove it. While the morning started out as a cluster, the day got progressively better.

You see, our confirmation for the Cabo Outdoor Adventure said to be there at 6:30 am; thus we had to get up insanely early (despite it being considerably late EST), and we had to find our own mode of transportation. And we did, a taxi pulled up, and we took it. We were dropped off at the downtown Cabo Marina, in front of the Dolphin Center, which was empty with no one inside. So we meandered up and down the Cabo Marina saying “no” to every fisherman who asked if we wanted to fish, trying to find someone who could help us. After a good 30 minutes of wondering, a back employee entrance was open and someone was there that was slightly educated and he said we were very early! “Thank you Captain Obvious” for the enlightenment. Anyway, I digressed, so we had to wait another 30 minutes before the check in opened up…and what do you know, when it does open and we’re trying to check in they can’t find our reservation. WHAT?! WHY?! What kind of people run this place? But wait, upon further investigation of the paperwork, our reservation was actually for YESTERDAY! Yea! So, we were up at the butt crack of dawn, freezing our tail feathers off, fending off the “Barracuda Mexican Fisherman” for nothing! I had to step away from the check-in counter needless to say however, Cabo Adventure came through and we were booked on the 9 am tour.

So, we went to have what turned out to be a wonderful breakfast at Café Canola, which overlooked the marina, and watched the sunrise. It was quite lovely actually.

Finally, we made it back to the Dolphin Center and were properly checked in and ready to go! Never the shy types, we made friends immediately- Oz & Jessica (the newlyweds from Dallas), Marette & George (step siblings from Seattle), and eventually Rachel & Matthew (engaged and get this, from ORLANDO!)

So… you’re asking yourself… what did you do?! Get on with it already… OK….hold onto your running shoes and tutus people…. We went zip lining, rope climbing, hiking, rock wall climbing, free ladder climbing, Tarzan swinging, bridge crossing, rock wall rappelling, river crossing, finally finishing with the mother of all zip lines- soaring above a rock quarry at 45 miles an hour! IT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!

I’m signing off here to go wash the funk off . XO to every Gringo y Cubano back home…

Mandy & Zeus

P.S.
Anyone thinking I’m not the “out-doorsey” type, can kiss it! Enjoy the photos! Lots of Love from Cabo!

I’m convinced it would be a better place! I mean really, if we all sat around, drinking endless amounts of margaritas and cerveza, overlooking an infinity pool leading out to the beautiful, blue Sea of Cortez with the Cabo Rocks off to the right and the cruise ships in the harbor, with a good book in hand, wouldn’t we all be happier people?

Well, that’s what we did today. I’ve just returned from a full day of poolside sunshine, finished one book, Zeus is napping at the moment and we’ll be getting ready for dinner shortly. I’m sorry to say I have nothing really exciting to report, but tomorrow brings a new adventure with repelling and zip lining so you KNOW I’ll have something to report on then.

Until then, cheers to my friends in the Estados Unidos…

After our 8-hour voyage, we weren’t even 15 minutes off the plane before I was ready to have an altercation with one of the airline passengers… allow me to explain: We departed our plane in Cabo del Something and were waiting in line to check in thru customs. While Zeus and I were the next ones in line to get in the next line, we noticed that a family and a woman traveling by herself had CUT THE LINE! NOT OK! Allow me to pause here to tell you that the family that cut, was he family of the “dad” in the movie “Coming to America” … yea, you know the one, the “dad “ of the “daughter” that Eddie Murphy’s character falls in love with! So the “c-list” actor whose name NO ONE could remember, and his family have “cutsies” (Dane Cook term). Well then, another woman decides to “cut” the line, which is not OK! So, guess who ends up behind her? That’s right… the Cubano y the white girl…. Well, folks I’ve got news for you, the white girl was raised to NOT cut lines, to mind my Ps and Qs and to obey proper etiquette rules… thus we did not “cut” the line; but we did end up behind the “puta” who did…. And you know she turned around, looked at me, and I had to say something… it went like this…. Me: “You realize you just cut in front of all of these people “ (about 12 mind you) Puta: She looks me up and down…. Me: “I’m just sayin…” Puta: “Thanks for sharing…” OMG, had I been channeling my inner “sista” (and my “sista’s” know who they are) I would have drop kicked that girl from Cabo to Guadalajara)…. (And as a side note, she was clearly unaware of the “if you cut in line” rule, in which you NEVER, EVER look behind you, because chances are, there are some very upset people who just might say something.) Needless to say, when I went to the restroom she “tried” to make amends con mi esposo in which he looked at her and rolled his eyes as if to say… “don’t even try me puta!” It was at that moment that I wish I spoke Spanish, but low and behold, said “puta” was Hispanic… LA Mexican we decided. Customs took at least two hours to get through…. And we finally made it to the hotel… oh wait… did I mention it was raining…. And just as we pulled into the hotel, it started down pouring. (Just so you know, I’ve left the part out where Zeus gets into a verbal argument with a Mexican over the transportation issue; let’s just not go there people, there was a lot of Spanish exchanged). So we finally made it to the hotel, and while trying to find our building (there were 16 it seemed) we stopped at a bar and threw back a margarita! In the rain, with luggage and all, we just needed a pause from the already LONG day we had endured. And since we can make friends anywhere we go, we met Benny and Jean from Las Vegas! They were fun to chat with and we might even hang out with them later this week; we did after all run into them at dinner… and we were STARVING b/c it was almost 7pm by the time we got checked in and found drinks and met our new friends EAST COAST TIME! So, we had dinner: were supposed to meet them at the bar, but here I sit, 7:53 Cabo time (10:53 EST) and I’m writing this blog… too tired (perhaps too old) to enjoy he nightlife… Ce la vie I say… until tomorrow or perhaps Wednesday… Mandy & Zeus

Tomorrow is gonna be a very sad day for me. My parents have finally sold their house in Jensen Beach to move and retire with the rest of the family in the Kendall area of Miami. I’m not sure if it’ll be the last time I will see this house. Regardless, I always dreamed of buying that house and renting it out till I could live there, but it doesn’t make sense now. I’ll never forget all the fun times I had there with my family.

I’ll never forget all the grandparents, Great Aunts, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins, and best friends that visited that house. I’ll never forget the water balloon birthday pool parties, Easter dinners, Thanksgiving dinners, and Christmas dinners that went on at that house. I’ll never forget seeing the “Real Santa.” I’ll never forget all the basketball I played at that house. I hope to never forget a lot of things about that house, but I’ll always remember my grandmother picking me up from school with her umbrella to shade from the sun, and her amazing cooking I can still smell and taste to this day. I especially won’t forget the bond I have with my father working on things around the house. I also won’t forget the great cooking and cleaning my mom constantly did around the house.

I’ll never forget 1612 NE 25th Terrace, Jensen Beach, you’ll be in my heart forever along with all the spirits you touched.

-Hello 110mpg Yamaha C3 Scooter! Ever since I got my scooter it has been really fun to drive to work. I can relate to why people have motorcycles (not that my top speed of 42mph is as fast as a motorcycle but I can relate). It’s been really nice to ‘zip’ around town in a small simple transportation tool. I’ve had my scooter for 3 months and it’s sometimes hard not having a car, but I’m struggling through it. My goal is to have this ride through December.

I do use a helmet, gloves, a jacket, and of course cool shades. I had 1 mishap, which was slipping in some wet grass (my commute was doing some off road, but I’ve since found a slightly faster way). My commute to work is 3.1 miles in 6 minutes 30 seconds. I don’t take any major roads except when I go to Waterford Lakes and I’m on SR 50 for a few minutes. Other than that I’ve found back roads to get to wherever I need.

Everyone asks, “What are you gonna do when it rains?”, and I say, “I have rain gear that I’m gonna wear!” The cold weather at the beginning of the year definitely sucked, mostly because I don’t have a full helmet, it’s just a skull cap with some cool graphics on the side. I hope to show off some video of me riding it and will add it to the post later.

For now it feels good to be this economical and enivornmentally friendly. We’ll see how long it lasts….
