This year Mandy and I went to Miami to spend Christmas with my family.  It was a great time, lots of binge drinking and eating…the usual.  Anyways, on our drive down on I-95 I was following a truck loaded with what looked like couches on the bottom and a woman’s dresser on top.  I didn’t notice till the dresser vibrated off that nothing was tied down especially the dresser!  We’re all cruising around  80 mph and this dresser vibrates off the truck!  I couldn’t believe it!  I was on the phone with Big Jay and I said to him as calmly as can be to hold on a second.  I swerve frantically over to the middle lane as the dresser was sliding into that same lane.  Luckily I was going faster than the dresser and it was slowing down but the scary thing was watching it break apart from hitting the ground and the vibrations.  We were very lucky that we were not following that truck any closer and that no one was around us.  I’m not sure about all the cars behind us but the cars immediately behind us were able to drive around this dresser.

What’s worse is on the way from Miami back to Orlando while on the Turnpike, Mandy had a good view to an accident that happened 3 cars in front of us.  This again while cruising around 75 mph and having to slam on our brakes with the pups in the back.   Another very dangerous situation, but luckily Mandy had warned me quickly enough that braking wasn’t super rough (Christmas gifts still moved and the pups were still upset over the whole thing).

So all this holiday driving is very dangerous so you all be extra careful!

I’ve written two blog posts for the Emurse blog and on my first post about “How to Leave Your Job” I forgot to mention a few things…

When resigning let your boss know and be ready to give him your reasons. Remember stay focused on the positive reasons for leaving. Reasons like, I’m tired of the 1980’s outdated work environment, aren’t necessary. Also be prepared for an ‘Oh, OK then….bye!’

Staying amicable with everyone is most important because people move on to another job in the same industry.

If your employer asks you to stay longer than your given notice, you have no obligation to do so.

Write a resignation letter, include your end date, and how much you’ve enjoyed working for the company. Again leaving on good terms is key.

Find out the benefits and salary you are entitled to receive upon leaving, paid time off and sick time is usually paid out, and rolling over your 401k to another employer or to an IRA.

Return any company property you may have.

Ikea CabinetI purchased the set pictured at Ikea on Monday. I started putting it together around 4pm Monday and finished around 8pm, because the top drawer I installed upside down and the system it snapped into, didn’t really snap out as easy. The instructions are terrible because they have no words, just pictures. I love picture books, but I enjoy reading the occasional deep thought instruction on how to put this thing together. My ghetto fix which you can’t see is I used some Gorilla Glue.

Side Note: Gorilla Glue is the fucking shit! It’ll hold anything to anything, it’s amazing!!

Now as far as Ikea’s return policy; I purchased some shelves that I was going to put my DVD’s on. I’m not satisfied with how they look and hold on the wall. I checked on their return policy and they say I can return or exchange on unopened items. Well, Read the rest of this entry »

My neighbor had a yellow lab, Jasper, that I loved like he was my own.  He was a great dog, who was very well behaved, and listened very well.  After that point I was hooked and said I wanted a dog as well trained as Jasper.  I knew I wanted a yellow lab also, because of Jasper and because my cousin breed labs, and I really enjoyed their demeanor all around.  Ever since I got Hannah 4 years ago, from the very beginning I trained her.  I was strict like Kyle, and used lots of repetition and simple praise.  She has been a great treat and still listens very well.  After getting married Marle came into my life and he didn’t have much direction, but now he too listens well and they’re both easy to manage if you say what you mean.  I read this tumble log and saw this video.  Now I’m not sure what this guy did, but he’s got an amazing dog, you gotta check it out….
